Experienced Attorney-Mediators
Serving Family Members throughout Denver and the Vail Valley
Resolving family law problems through the courts is both time-consuming and costly. It is emotionally draining and fraught with unexpected difficulties and challenges. Typically, litigating family law issues in a courtroom - with an unpredictable judge - creates the most disruption to personal lives, including the parties, their children ... even the parties' relationships with parents, siblings and friends. Because of this, many courts today require that parties at least attempt mediation, hoping that they can retain mastery of their respective destinies.
Court decisions often seem unfair and ill-considered, resulting in bitterness and long-term conflict. Through mediation, the parties manage the results and retain control over their future circumstances.
Family Law Mediation
Family matters that can be mediated (and usually should be) are:
- Divorce (Dissolution of Marriage) or Legal Separation
- Child Support (both during and after a divorce, legal separation or paternity proceeding)
- Maintenance, also referred to as Alimony (both during and after a divorce or legal separation)
- Parenting Time, also referred to as Visitation or Custody (both during and after a divorce, legal separation or paternity proceeding)
- Relocation, both intrastate and interstate
- Marital Agreements
- Grandparent Visitation
- Property and Debt Division or Allocation (through a divorce or legal separation)
- Other Post-Decree Issues
Contact us by e-mail or call to schedule an appointment. Because we understand the financial impact legal costs have on families, our fees for family law mediation are determined on a sliding scale that is based on the parties' financial circumstances. These income-based rates start at $120 per hour.
The Benefits of Mediation
An understanding of mediation will help you to fully understand its benefits. Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution process that gives you, the parties, the opportunity to resolve problems in a neutral, less adversarial, hostility-free setting. Mediators are unbiased guides whose sole purpose is to facilitate a settlement by helping you recognize and appreciate each party's concerns, interests, and needs. Mediators do not make decisions; you (the parties) do. We don't give orders like a judge; instead, we facilitate understanding between (among) the parties and guide them toward their own, mutually-designed resolution.
